Feats President’s pick Meegan Barnes’ artist statement In my work, I like to juxtapose humor with more serious personal issues. A few years ago, after a trip to Brazil, I started sculpting butts. The butt alone is such a great shape but it takes on deeper meaning when I started incorporating drawing and text. I come from an illustration background so it was just so natural to start drawing on clay. The piece in the show illustrates the two sides of me, one on each butt cheek. Through sculpture, I find the joy and sense of freedom that comes with remembering not to take life too seriously. And hopefully, when people look at my butts, they can’t help but crack a smile.
