Oberg Shows Way With 18 Points; Meet Davis Tonight

Senior guard Austin Oberg tallied 18 points to help pace the Colfax High boys basketball team to a 50-39 win over Ponderosa Thursday night in the opening round of the Gold Dust Tournament. Playing the Bruins on their homecourt in Shingle Springs, the Falcons held a 30-27 advanatage after three quarters in the defensive struggle. However, with Oberg and Chase Mosier showing the way, Colfax outpointed the hosts 20-12 in a decisive fourth quarter to pull away fro the win. Mosier added 10 points to Colfax's winning cause while Ben Buell added seven, Brandon Creemen and Elliot Forsman five each, Robert O'Connell three and Tom Baldoni two. Colfax, 1-1, will play Davis High tonight at 8 p.m. in the winner's bracket round. That game will be played at El Dorado in Placerville. In other games involving Pioneer Valley League boys teams on Thursday, Placer fell to Shasta, 77-42, in the first round of the Harlan Carter Tournament in Redding; Lincoln improved to 2-0 with an 80-58 rout of Encina at the Whetaland Tournament and at the Jack Scott Classic, Center fell to M onterey Trail, 61-60 and Foothill lost to Kennedy, 58-53.
