Senior volleyball player invited to Australia
A Lincoln High School senior has been invited to join the Northern California beach volleyball team and travel to Sydney, Australia to compete in a tournament this summer. However, she’s going to need some help to make a dream come true. Stephanie McMillan was the libero for the school’s varsity volleyball team this past season and received many compliments and awards for her great defensive skill. Now, she has the opportunity of a lifetime. Not only has she heard from colleges trying to recruit her, she also got a telephone call from Down Under Sports asking her if she would like to travel to Australia for a few weeks to play volleyball. They also sent her a letter inviting her to represent Northern California in an All-American Beach Volleyball Tournament on the sands of Surfer’s Paradise Beach in Sydney. After that, she will compete with the U.S. and Australian teams in the International Indoor-Volleyball Tournament which is a two-day event with each team competing in 10 games. McMillan looks forward to surfing, playing volleyball, going on real safaris and making memories that will last forever. “I’m so excited and I can’t wait to go, but I really need to start fundraising right now.” McMillan stated, emphasizing her excitement. She considers it a great honor to be able to experience a whole different place and lifestyle and doesn’t plan on missing out. The entire trip will cost $4,000. After making an immediate deposit, she will now receive 25 cents for every dollar she raises. However, it’s a lot of money to raise in less than 6 months. She is pulling together a fundraising committee to help her. She plans to talk to local businesses and will conduct a Penny-Bowl-A-Thon in the near future, but she also needs the help of the community. Anyone interested in helping make McMillan’s dream come true, please contact her at firstname.lastname@example.org, or one of her committee helpers at Stephanie.email@example.com.
