Lincoln Rotary held the inaugural Lincoln Wine Fest event on Saturday afternoon. Several hundred people had the opportunity to discover the charm of historic downtown Lincoln while they enjoyed wine tasting from nine boutique Placer County wineries. The weather was perfect. The crowd was much larger than forecast and made for some lines out the door in many places. As one retailer said, ?When have you ever seen lines of three people deep trying to get into our stores?? The overall response was extremely positive. People from surrounding areas got to sample downtown for the first time. Even more encouraging were dozens of comments from Lincoln residents who said they had never been in the stores downtown and how much they were impressed by them. We all hope they will be back soon and become regular customers. Huge thanks to the wineries for donating their wine and staff for the day. We kept them busy! And a special acknowledgement to Wardrobe, Awful Annie?s and Rancho Roble who were mistakenly left off the Passport Program during the printing process. All the retailers and restaurants were absolutely wonderful and generous with their time, space and food. Fine art vendors worked hard and added much to the ambiance and flavor of the day. After tasting, many sat in the wine garden at the plaza and enjoyed the live music, pretzels and wine by the glass. Three lucky winners of the raffle walked off with six bottles of wine each. This was truly a community event with everyone pitching in. Rotary led the charge and, without all the other groups and individuals, it would not have been a success. Next year, we will fine- tune and have an even greater Lincoln Wine Fest. Enormous thanks to all of the following: Ciotti Cellars, Sierra Hills Framing, Brick House, Cristaldi, Carrousel Cottage, Mr. Pickles, Dono Dal Cielo, Kim?s Gift Shop, Kim?s Country Kitchen, Le Casque, Ace Hardware, Los Gallos, Pescatore, Buonarroti?s Restaurant, Popie Wines, Fashion Fo Paws, Old Town Pizza, Rancho Roble, Wardrobe, Awful Annie?s, Secret Ravine, Lincoln Blvd. Consignment, Simple Pleasures, Wise Villa, Beermann?s Restaurant, Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, Lincoln Downtown Merchants Group, fine arts vendors, Lincoln Parks and Recreation, Lincoln Police Department, Rich Ragan of COPS, Foto?s Market, Lincoln Archive Museum, our band, Jukebox with singer Ann Baaten, and our Passport Sponsor, The Lincoln News Messenger. Most of all, thanks to the hard working, tireless volunteers of Lincoln Rotary and their spouses who devoted months of effort in planning and work. Our proceeds after expenses will be spent on community projects. Rotary?s motto is ?Service Above Self.? Thank you to all above and everyone who attended. We live in a terrific community and it?s great to share that with others. Paul Joiner is a Rotary Club member.
