Best martial arts school Winner: Jenkins Martial Arts Location: 509 G St. Phone: 300-4377 For three years in a row, Jenkins Martial Arts has been voted Best Martial Arts School by readers. “What makes us different,” said owner Bill Jenkins, “is the fact that we teach martial arts first. Advancement through the ranks comes second.” Jenkins said that while other martial arts schools focus on advancing students to black belt in two or three years, students at his dojo typically take about five years to make the coveted rank. And there’s a reason for that. “Our black belts are professional martial artists,” Jenkins said. “It sets us apart from the larger commercial schools.” Here in Lincoln since 1996, Jenkins Martial Arts has brought home 25 professional karate world championships, often traveling overseas to compete. “It’s time, commitment and dedication to the arts,” Jenkins said, adding that his school has excellent retention rates due to a very dedicated core group of martial artists.
