California High School Rodeo Association District 3 competition returns to the Lincoln Arena this weekend for the sixth event of the season. The affair will also include the Special Rodeo scheduled for the afternoon March 11. The girls senior all-around standings are heating up as Katie Rice (511 points) tries to catch the leader Cheyanne Carpenter (551). The two go head-to-head in barrel racing, breakaway roping, goat tying, and cutting. In team roping, Carpenter competes as header, Rice as heeler. Carpenter also has picked 48 points in pole bending, and event in which Rice has not scored. For the boys, Clayton Brum has a commanding lead scoring in five of the eight senior events. Jordan Sparrowk trails Brum 426.5 to 267. Brum does not compete in bareback riding or steer wrestling and team ropes as the header. The competition begins around 8 a.m. both days and goes until 5 p.m. Saturday. District 3 will try to wrap up the events by noon for the Special Rodeo.
