Cross country a strong third in PVL

Placer and Bear River still dominate

The Lincoln High School cross-country team competed in it first Pioneer Valley League meet at Gibson Ranch County Park, Sept. 28. The boys and girls squads each finished in third. Girls – Bear River (26 points) Placer (29 points), Lincoln (86 points), Center (109 points) and Colfax (117 points). Boys – Placer (17 points), Bear River (56 points), Lincoln (86 points), Center (87 points) and Colfax (124 points). Girls freshman/sophomore – Placer (18 points), Foothill (46 points) and Lincoln (66 points). Boys freshman/sophomore – Placer (15 points) and Lincoln (40 points). Volleyball Oct. 1 – The Lincoln varsity girls volleyball team finished a great week with a strong showing against Big Valley Christian High School in the CIVT Large School Varsity Tournament. The Fighting Zebras won 2-0, winning 25-13, 25-8. Sept. 29 – Lincoln defeated Highlands 3-0. The Fighting Zebras won 25-15, 25-17, 25-8. Junior Shelby Workman led Lincoln with five kills, Meaghan Cortes scored 15 points and senior Stephanie McMillan recorded 15 digs in the win. Sept. 27 – The Fighting Zebras won at Rio Linda 3-1. Lincoln won 25-23, 16-25, 25-19, 25-17. Junior Briana Brown recorded 28 attacks and seven kills. Taylor Emerson scored 11 points, Seline Richard had 22 assists and McMillan recorded 45 digs in the victory. Lincoln (10-4-0, 0-1 league) lost 3-0 to Bear River, Monday, to begin Pioneer Valley League play. No player statistics were available.
