cross-country frosh/soph girls head for sections

Two sophomore boys also qualify

ANGELS CAMP _ The Lincoln High cross-country runners competed at the CIF Sac-Joaquin Subsection meet, Saturday. The Fighting Zebras’ frosh/soph girls qualified to advance to sections as a team, and two sophomore boys will advance. The frosh/soph girls placed fourth out of 13 teams from Division III. The top six teams advance to sections. Katy Mercier raced to an eighth-place (14:26) finish to lead her teammates into sections. Silvia Fernstrom was ninth (13:31) to help seal Lincoln’s qualifying effort. Rounding out the top five were Annika Lehenbauer (36th, 15:31), Kelsy Prentice (53rd, 16:32), and Loreena Sims (61st, 15:55). Also running with the club were Lauren Gage, Corrine Lewis, and Maya Peterson. Kyle Ebert and Dylan Toerpe advanced for the boys frosh/soph squad. Ebert was second in a time of 11:45 over the 2-mile course, and Toerpe 13th, in 11:45, and Toerpe was 13th. The team ended in eighth place. Making up the rest of the frosh/soph boys were Jake Palmyra, Leo Calderon, Jake Stern, Jaden Wood, Liam Hao, Logan Balentine, Mathew Binning, and Billy Klipp. The varsity boys placed 21st out of 25 teams. Sean Gage was the Zebras’ top runner and finished in 136th place. Following Gage in order were Brendan Martin, Michael Noles, Jacob Edwards, Stephen Hay, Uriah Smith, and Bryan Garcia. The varsity girls team had the required five runners to compete as a team, but came in 20th out of 21 schools running in Division III. Leading the Zebras was Kali Federwisch. She placed 95th. Running just behind her were Sammy Klipp, Kelsi Snook, Savannah Berkley, and Gaudalupe Calixto. There were 161 runners in all. Daniel Hagge and Renato Agurto ran in the boys freshman race.
