Early morning commuters were treated to a Friday morning light show, as multiple law enforcement agencies converged on the shoulder of Interstate 80 near Riverside Avenue in Roseville to take a fleeing robbery suspect into custody.

The incident began with deputies from the Placer County Sheriff’s Office responding to a robbery call at Thunder Valley Casino. Surrounding law enforcement agencies were notified to be on the look-out for a black sedan matching certain descriptions. According to Sacramento Police spokesman Doug Morris, Sacramento police officers spotted the vehicle near Interstate 80 and Watt Avenue. When officers attempted to pull it over, the sedan sped away, triggering a vehicle pursuit on eastbound 80.

“At one point, the suspect tried to get off the freeway going the wrong direction on the Riverside off-ramp,” Morris said.

Sacramento police officers and a Sacramento County Sheriff’s K-9 handler cornered the suspect on the shoulder of Interstate 80 below Riverside Avenue.

“He was captured with a K-9 deployment,” Morris confirmed.

Once the suspect was in custody, officers called an ambulance to deal with his bleeding arm. He was taken by law enforcement and medical personnel to a nearby treatment center for medical clearance.

The suspect, whose name has not yet been released, is facing felony charges of evading peace officers and theft-related charges for the incident at Thunder Valley Casino.
