SAFE Credit Union is seeking “exceptional teens” for scholarship opportunities. As part of SAFE’s scholarship program, 10 college-bound high school seniors will each be awarded $1,000 this spring. Recipients will be chosen, based on grade-point averages, community service and letters of recommendation. Each student will also be asked to submit a personal composition on how their education will benefit the community. The program is open annually to students who live or attend school in Placer, Sacramento, Yolo, Yuba, Sutter, Amador, Butte, Contra Costa, Nevada, San Joaquin, Solano and El Dorado counties. In 2009, 10 students were chosen from 115 candidates. The application package for 2010 is available online at and at SAFE branches. Applications must be postmarked no later than April 5, 2010 to be eligible. “We want to provide students with the resources they need to improve their well-being,” said SAFE President and CEO Henry Wirz. “By rewarding outstanding academic achievement, we hope to encourage all students to thrive.” ~ Staff report
