Coyotes rock at state championships

Two bronze and a silver

The ninth annual California State Championships for Seniors Softball USA were played in Lincoln and Roseville July 7-11 with Lincoln Hills Coyotes garnering a second and two thirds. The Coyotes 70s played three days at Foskett Park and battled back through certain elimination to grab the silver ring. With temperatures well exceeding the century mark the club began play at 12:30 p.m. and had subdued Redwood City 18-9 to set up a semifinal match with unbeaten Thousand Oaks. The Coyotes throttled Thousand Oaks 18-6 in the first game to set up a championship showdown. But three games that day proved one too many as TO rebounded to win 13-8 and take the title. However, the Land O? Lincoln boys put up some big numbers. Gym Mikaelsen ? six doubles, three triples and 15 runs batted in for a 1.273 slugging percentage. John Wible ? four doubles, a home run and 17 RBI and Pete Savoia with a .750 batting average. Jim Sandin, Bill Stroh and Randy Wilcox provided the pitching. Coyotes 65s _ Playing at Foskett as well, the 65s took third with a 4-1 record. All-tournament selections were Ron Greeno (.889 BA, four HRs and five doubles), Carlos Zavala (.844 BA). They were aided on offense by Brock Dagg, Jim Jones, Nick Fox, Jerome Bader, John Dambrosio and Owen Brosh. Coyotes 60s _ Playing on Maidu Field in Roseville the 60s earned bronze.
