Coyotes close winter season with split in senior softball

The Lincoln Hills Coyotes, a senior softball winter league team, played their final Sierra League doubleheader of the season on April 1. The Coyotes split the doubleheader against the visiting Fair Oaks Saints, losing game one 20-15 and winning the finale 14-12. Carlos Zavala (1.000 batting average, five RBI, one homer), Nick Eterovich (1.000 average, winning pitcher), John Gho (.833 average), Rich Huskey (.833, three RBI) and Roger Cain (.714, two RBI, two triples) led Lincoln. The winter Coyotes finished with a record of 13-11. Sierra League doubleheaders will continue on Thursdays for the rest of the spring and throughout the summer. Lincoln’s Coyote 65s, Coyote 60s Black and Coyote 60s Blue will compete in these games. Sun City Classics Lincoln’s Sun City Classics split a doubleheader with the Lodi 70s to begin their senior softball season on Friday. The Sun City Classic 70s compete in the Quad-City Senior League and will play in doubleheaders on Fridays from now through August. The Classics beat Lodi 22-9 in Game One but lost the second game, shortened by rain, 9-7. Lincoln’s Jay Holland hit a three-run triple in the win while teammate Roland Cavin hit a three-run homer. George Wilson led the Lincoln defense. Bud Conner homered for Lincoln in the second game. The teams they will play are Lodi, Placerville and Sacramento. The average age of the players on these 25-man teams is 74.4. The Classics will play in Placerville on Friday.
