The Lincoln Hills Coyote 70s, a senior softball tournament team, traveled to Penn Valley last weekend and came away as winners of their division by beating the Sacramento Gold Rush in one of Sunday’s games.
The Coyotes ended up with a 3-2 record by also beating a 60s and 65s team, both from Sacramento. The offense was led by Tuck Halsey (.733 batting average), Rowan Carlson and Bill Rexrode with .692, John Parks (triple, double) and John Wible (4 doubles, 11 RBIs).
The Coyote 60s Black competed in Oakdale and comprised a 1-5 record, averaging 15 runs per game. D. J. Cox hit four home runs, while John Griffin, J.R. Jackson, and Bec Cannistraci each hit one. The Coyote 65s went to Maidu Field in Roseville last Thursday to play the number one team in the league, Northern Express, and almost pulled off a win in the second game only to lose 21-19.
Bob Hunter made great catches in the outfield and batted .833 with three doubles. Al Parsons hit .875 and Rich Huskey hit .750. Today the 65s play a doubleheader at Del Webb Field against Fair Oaks.
Lincoln Hills Classics drop pair
The Lincoln Hills Classics lost two games to the Placerville 70's, a 20-10 decision and a heartbreaking defeat of 16-13 in the second game.
Ed Sorenson, George Wilson and Vern DeVincenzi had big hits in both games, and Dave Ramm pitched and hit well in the second one. However, Al Sanders was the gem in both games, hitting 9-for-9.
