Coyote 70s lose in tournament finals

Three Lincoln Hills Coyote senior softball teams competed in tournaments over the weekend. Lincoln’s Coyote 65s and 70s played in Yuba City with the 65s finishing 1-4 and the 70s reaching the championship game. The 70s were defeated 21-20 in Sunday’s finals. For the tournament, Lincoln’s offensive leaders were Bob Hunter (.889 batting average) and Bill Bigone (.800) while Jim Haworth led the defense. Lincoln’s Nick Fox (1.000) and Pete Savoia (.833) led the 65s while teammates Jim Mikaelsen and Jim Jones both hit homers. The 60s competed in Turlock and went 1-4. Lincoln’s J.R. Jackson, Terry Padovan and D.J. Cox each homered in the tourney for Lincoln. Both the 60s and the 65s played in Sierra League doubleheaders on April 8. The 65s were swept in Woodland while the 60s split their games with the visiting Northern Express. Sun City Classics The Sun City Classics swept a doubleheader from the host Placerville 70s on Friday, winning 19-11 and 14-9. Lincoln’s Ed Sorenson homered in each game while teammates Bud Conner, Dave Ramm and Larry Fetzko also starred on offense. Fetzko was also a defensive leader at third base. The Classics will play in a doubleheader at Sacramento on Friday.
