The Lincoln Hills Coyote 70s, a senior softball team, went undefeated at the Rock ‘N Reno tournament June 1-3. Lincoln competed against teams from Idaho, Utah and Northern California. The Coyotes beat Utah’s Slammin’ 70s 12-5 in the finals and outscored their opponents 109-48 in the six games. Larry Manley and Jim Sandin were Lincoln’s top pitchers while John Parks and Wally Etterbeek were among the defensive leaders. Lincoln’s offensive stars were John Wible (.833 batting average, 18 RBI), Manley (.810), Jim Berry (.800, 13 RBI), Parks (.750, two triples, home run), John Maranta (.737), Jim Haworth (.722, homer) and Frank Pulino (.722). Lincoln’s Bill Bigone and Bob Hunter also homered in the tournament. Each player was given a Miken bat bag with rollers for winning the title. The Coyote 65s went 4-2 during this tournament. Lincoln’s Jim Mikaelsen, Jim Jones and Ron Greeno each hit two homers while Barry Cunningham led the Coyotes with a batting average of .800. Both the Coyote 65s and 70s will play in a tournament in Penn Valley this weekend.
