Coyote 70s claim title

The Lincoln Hills Coyote 70s, a senior softball team, won the Coyote Invitational at Del Webb Field over the weekend. The Coyote 70s went undefeated during the six-team tournament in Lincoln that also featured the Lincoln Hills Sun Eagles, Modesto Eagles and Lodi’s Big Valley Seniors, among others. The 70s outscored their opponents 61-29 as they went 5-0 as John Maranta hit two homers to help lead the offense. The 70s, 45-12 overall this season, also held onto first place in the Sierra League standings by sweeping Placerville in a doubleheader last week. The Coyote 65s were swept by the Northern Express last week in a league doubleheader. Classics sweep Sacramento The Sun City Classics 70s swept the Sacramento Golden Seniors in a league doubleheader last week at Del Webb Field. The Classics won the first game 13-3 as Gene Rouquier sparked the Lincoln offense early with a three-run triple. Teammate Dar Gallaway was solid on the mound and strong on defense and Bob Hunter made several nice plays in the outfield for Lincoln. Gallaway was also the winning pitcher in the second game as Lincoln won by the same score. Jay Holland made two impressive plays at second base and teammate Jack Sullivan was clutch at the plate for the Classics. The Classics will participate in the holiday games at Del Webb Field Friday.
