Coyote 60s slam 14 homers at senior softball tournament in Oroville

Powered by a team-record 14 home runs, the Lincoln Hills Coyote 60s Black senior softball team went 3-2 at a tournament in Oroville over the weekend. Lincoln’s Mike Schmidt had the game-winning hit in the final game as the Coyotes came from behind in the final inning to win. Carlos Zavala (five homers), D.J. Cox (four), John Griffin (three) and J.R. Jackson (two) each hit multiple homers for Lincoln. Lincoln’s Coyote 65s competed in Manteca over the weekend and went 1-5. Due to the Coyotes high ranking they had to give their opponents five runs per game and it became too much to overcome. Lincoln’s Jim Mikaelsen hit a towering home run during the tournament while teammates Jim Jones and Nick Fox had batting averages of .800. The 65s split a Sierra League doubleheader with Suisun at Del Webb Field in Lincoln Hills. Lincoln will host Vacaville in a Sierra League doubleheader at Del Webb Field at 9:30 a.m. today. Sun City Classics The Sun City Classics split a doubleheader with Sacramento on Friday, dropping Game one 14-10 and winning Game 2 10-5. Lincoln pitcher Dave Ramm gave up only one run after the first inning in the second game. Lincoln’s defensive leaders were Larry Fetzco, Ed Sorenson, Larry Manley, George Wilson and Gene Rouquier. Lincoln’s Len Slomski was a defensive star in the first game.
