An orientation about the COPs (Citizen’s On Patrol) volunteer program with the Police Department will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. The COPs program supports the Police Department in a variety of service areas. Duties include “outside” assignments such as car and bike patrols, vacation-home checks and emergency responses and numerous “inside” assignments such as finger printing, administration, customer service, investigations, teaching in schools and support to all internal departments. Lincoln Police Chief Brian Vizzusi will describe the program and current opportunities at Wednesday’s orientation. The COPs program is open to everyone 21 and older who are Lincoln residents, subject to qualifying interviews and background reviews. The orientation will be at the Police Department training room at 640 Fifth St. Space is limited so anyone interested in attending should call 645-4079 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve a space as soon as possible.
