Community Christian Schools host Dessert Extravaganza
By: Staff report
Chocolate coconut praline cake, chocolate truffles, brownie caramel pecan bars, apple raisin walnut pie ... what could be better than a huge room filled with delectable desserts all awaiting your discriminating taste buds? This is just what you can expect at Lincoln's seventh annual Dessert Extravaganza at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23. All of the desserts are entered by local residents. The desserts are judged by a panel of celebrity judges made up of local officials and event sponsors. First, second and third place awards are given in four dessert categories “ cakes, confections, cookies and pies. Everyone attending the event casts a vote for the People's Choice Award. Last year's winner was Rusty Ameter, who entered Nana's Harvest Cheesecake. The Dessert Extravaganza is open to the public and is at the Pavilion in McBean Park. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased in advance or at the door. Ticketholders may taste an unlimited number of desserts. A limited number of I Bought It tickets are also available for an additional $20, and allow the holder to purchase a whole dessert. In addition to the dessert tasting, there will also be raffle prizes, a silent auction and a live auction. All proceeds benefit the programs at Community Christian Schools in Lincoln. People who would like to enter a dessert in this year's event can do so by filling out a dessert entry form online at www.ccslincoln.com before Friday.
