The Lincoln High girls basketball team will go up against Yuba City in the nightcap as the Chavez Christmas Classic gets underway in the Fighting Zebras’ house, Thursday. The 1-2 Zebras tripped up the Honkers last year, 43-40, and will be looking to do it again. Yuba City was on a three-game win streak before falling to Lindhurst last week. They average more than 50 points a game, and spread the scoring pretty well. With a victory, Lincoln would move on to play the winner between Oakmont and West Campus (6:30 p.m., Thursday). The Vikings picked up an easy win over Mesa Verde, Dec. 8, but lost their next three games. They are averaging a little more than 42 points a game, and are playing with a limited roster. The West Campus Warriors dropped below .500 after four-straight defeats, but toppled Winters, 54-41, Dec. 9. Junior Haley Shaner has been the big gun adding 14 points a game to the tribe’s 50-point average. Forest Lake Christian and Rio Linda will open the tournament at 3:30 p.m. The Falcons are a Division IV club, but have had strong teams in the past. However, this year Forest Lake has struggled. The Knights could be tournament favorites coming in with only one loss, and that to perennial power house Bear River. Rio Linda has been winning by margins of 10 points or greater. Marysville will tip off against Waldorf at 5 p.m. The Indians also come strong with six wins against two losses. They were to go up against Yuba City, Tuesday, before heading for the Christmas Classic. Sacramento Waldorf is also a small school, but already has five wins this season. They depend a lot on underclassmen with only four seniors on their squad. However, the Waves could be the tournament sleeper.
