Catta Verdera Country Club’s clubhouse sets against a backdrop of oak trees and sloping greens; its architecture inspired by the missions of California’s coastline. Behind it lays more than 7,500 yards of sprawling terrain. Its fairways covered in Bermuda grass able to withstand summer’s heat while using very little water. Small creeks flow from a lake near the 18th green and spread across the course like the limbs of a tree. Tiny bridges connect the land masses to make Catta Verdera a cohesive golfing experience. “The golf course is just the real big thing here,” said general manager Jeff Wilson. “It is our No. 1 asset.” The course offers golfers an array of lengths and challenges. The club’s longest par 5 stretches out more than 600 yards for the long hitters. A couple holes later, a par 3 tests a player’s skills from just 111 yards away. The golfer is gradually introduced to Catta Verdera over the first seven holes with lengths of no more than 435 yards and includes two par 3s. The club’s website offers descriptive names for each hole, like Gun Sight. Gun Sight is a par 3 that targets the green with the use of oak trees and granite outcroppings. The 604-yard eighth hole is aptly named FARR AWAY, all in caps and with an extra R. All the holes provide a mixture of distance and shot-making to inspire and dare players of virtually all skill levels. With all the challenges golfers must face at Catta Verdera, it makes the clubhouse all the more inviting. However, that’s just the first 15 holes according to Wilson “That’s a tough question,” he responded as to which hole he thought was the toughest. “The finishing three holes … ,” he continued, “are probably some of the strongest finishing holes in the area.” Holes 16, 17 and 18 are all protected in some way, either by sand bunkers or water hazards. As for hole 17, it brings in both. “It’s a spectacular hole … ,” Wilson said, “it’s a spectacular finish.” Catta Verdera Country Club is located at 1111 Catta Vedera at Twelve Bridges in Lincoln.
