ANTELOPE _ After giving up an eight-point advantage to Center, the Lincoln High boys basketball team made a furious charge in the second half but couldn’t overtake the Cougars. Center hit two clutch free throws to defeat the Fighting Zebras 64-60 last Thursday. The Cougars were able to build their lead on offensive rebounds leading to second and third shots. Lincoln shut down the easy baskets in the second half but couldn’t quite close the gap. Travis Miskell led the Zebras with 15 points and handed out four assists. Marcus Salgado added 11 while Ethan Everett scored 10. Everett, a 6-5 sophomore, also had seven rebounds and three blocked shots in the contest. Lincoln was scheduled to travel to Foothill, the Pioneer Valley League leader, to try and avenge and earlier 67-44 loss, Tuesday. They host Placer tonight, 7 p.m. The Zebras close out regular season play at Colfax, Feb. 14. Lincoln was rated 17th in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III Power Ratings with a 3-2 league record and 12-8 overall. They have since fallen to 17th as of Feb. 6 with two more losses and a 3-4 and 12-10 record. They will need some wins to keep their playoff hopes alive. Foothill is rated No. 1 and Center No. 5 in the Div. III power ratings.
