The Lincoln Little League Majors Braves’ Cole Cavarra had a career night to help his club get past the battling Bucs 2-0.

Little did the Atlanta nine know it when Cavarra put a solo shot over the fence to give his team a 1-0 edge in the first inning that it would be the winning run of the game. He came back three innings later to turn a base-on-balls into a run by rounding the bases on a wild pitch, passed ball and scoring on an error to conclude the evening’s point totals.

The Pirates put runners in scoring position nine times but came up empty. Nick Althouse, Matt Brown and Tommy Turner matched the Braves’ hits with three of their own. The club drew seven walks but stranded them all.

It was Cavarra’s eighth home run of the season to lead the Majors. He also pitched 4 1/3 innings recording nine strikeouts. He was relieved by Harry Rounds.

Rounds and Clayton Coats had the Braves other two hits, Coats’ was a double.

Althouse went the distance on the hill for the Pirates and pitched an excellent game striking out six. However, his offense just couldn’t bring home the runs.

In other games Saturday, the Cardinals slipped by the Giants 5-1 and the Phillies unloaded on the Rays 20-4.

It was reported the Phils’ Connor Manley hit his second and third home runs of the season, one a grand slam.
