Castillo leads Lincoln at Pioneer Valley League meet

Lincoln High senior J.J. Castillo led the Zebras track and field team at the Pioneer Valley League meet at Placer in Auburn on Friday. Castillo won the discus with a toss of 160-feet, five inches and he will represent the Zebras in the Sac-Joaquin Section, Division III meet in Modesto Thursday. Castillo was also third in the shot put at the league meet with a mark of 44-03. Lincoln’s varsity boys placed fifth as a team at the league meet. Joining Castillo with impressive showings for the Zebras were Todd Hinnebusch (fifth place, high jump), Mark Maslov (fifth, pole vault, season-best 12-07) and Alex Cowden (sixth, triple jump). Heather Felt (fifth, 3200) and Savannah Berkley (fifth, pole vault, personal-best 7-09) led Lincoln’s varsity girls. Lincoln’s junior varsity boys tied for fourth as Matt Probst (first, discus, 120-01; third, shot put, 42-09; fourth, long jump), Stephen Hay (third, 110-meter hurdles; third, 300 hurdles), Travis Miskell (first, 1600, 4:48.9; first, 3200, 11:04.63) and Brian Keck (second, 1600, 4:54.14; fourth, 3200 11:25.95) led the way. Both Miskell and Keck broke the existing meet records at the JV level.
