Placer Youth Soccer League will hold a Play Day at Whitney High School to introduce parents and guardians to TOPSoccer for boys and girls with mental and physical disabilities. The Play Day runs from 9 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Families and their child or young adult will be able to practice, meet friends and begin play. Those who wish to participate in the program will be placed on teams according to ability and not age. The fee is $35. This program has met with great success in other areas as well. The TOPSoccer program in Elk Grove is now in its sixth year for both indoor and outdoor soccer. The camp will be hosted by Wildcats head coach Andy Carter and the Whitney high players. The fee is $100 and includes camp T-shirt, quality instruction, awards and individual evaluation. Please register by June 22. Refreshments will be available for sale. Appearances by special guests will highlight the camp. All fundamentals will be stressed including warm-ups, workouts, offense, defense and competition. Players will be grouped according to grade and ability. Baseball Factory and sponsor Under Armour will hold an open tryout June 24 for 12-14 year old players for instruction and possible selection to play on its national team. Registration is at noon at Sierra College. Registrants will receive coaching on speed, pitching, hitting, defense and arm strength. Players will be evaluated on their strengths and weaknesses and tips on how to improve their games. A complete evaluation will be given via telephone within 72 hours. Those chosen to continue could compete at the Baseball Factory Select Training at the All Star Game, World Series at Pirate City or Cape Cod Select Training and Competition. Beginning at 9 a.m., those who come early can get a video and written evaluation and prescription for a website plus instruction videos to improve performance. William Jessup Basketball Camp What: Nike Overnight Basketball Who: Basketball Players Ages 8-18 Where: William Jessup University When: July 9-12 Cost: $410/Day Camp only $310 Contact: or call (916) 577-2200 William Jessup University will offer three summer basketball camps beginning with its Nike Overnight Basketball Camp July 9-12 for kids age 8-18. The cost is $410 and includes breakfast, lunch and dinner for each day. Day campers only may register for $310. There will be Junior Skills Development for ages 5-9 July 16-19, which runs from 9 a.m. to noon. During that same camp players age 10-18 can sign up for a competition camp for $200. Warriors? head basketball coach Aaron Music will coordinate the camps providing fundamental basketball skills and character values. The camps will be held in the activities building at WJU; there is a $20 discount for registering by June 15.
