Bring back the fireworks

-A +A

There has been a long tradition in the city of Lincoln for the residents of Lincoln and surrounding communities to gather at McBean Park to celebrate our nation’s independence on the 4th of July.

Fireworks at the park is the best attended event of the year and favorite of many in and around Lincoln. All estimates indicate over 10,000 people enjoy the show at the park and an equal number gather at homes and other vantage points nearby to witness a spectacular display.

In 2010, due to lack of city funds, the community almost didn’t have a fireworks show. One person, who has lived in Lincoln for over 30 years, decided it’s a tradition that just couldn’t go by the wayside.

Ruth Alves took it upon herself to raise the funds and a new tradition was born! Several of us are working together this year to provide another day of celebration events capped by a terrific fireworks display.

Because we are doing this on our own, as private citizens, we have asked the city to receive, account for and disperse the funds for the fireworks and associated event expenses. They have agreed to do so. No city funds will be used for this event.

Our goal of $35,000 will cover all the expenses associated with the day’s events and the fireworks show, including promotion and advertising, Pyro-technicians, permits, fireworks, signs, fire department, police, parks department, waste disposal, city accounting, and insurance. All other efforts are 100 percent volunteered.

Come joins us at McBean Park for a day of fun and celebration. We will have live music, food, vendors, games, a KidZone and the pool will be open. Then find a seat on the lawn for a spectacular fireworks display.

We can only do this with your support.  Your potentially tax -deductible contributions* of any amount can be sent to Lincoln Community Foundation - 2013 Fireworks Fund, 600 Sixth St., Lincoln, CA 95648.

Thank you so much for your consideration and support. I hope to see you at the park on the 4th!
