Braves stay in chase for Majors with win over Giants

The Lincoln Little League Majors Braves put together a strong performance on the mound and at the plate to hold the Giants scoreless and claim a 9-0 victory Thursday at McBean Park.

The Braves’ Michael Newsom and Clayton Coats held the San Francisco nine to five hits. The Giants put three runners on third base but couldn’t bring them home.

Newsom and Coats combined for 11 strikeouts and four base-on-balls.

At the plate, Dylan Rhodes, Newsom, Cole Cavarra and Nolan Zaslove had two hits apiece. Rhodes, Cavarra and Zaslove each scored twice. Rhodes had a triple in the contest and Cavarra, Blake Havey, Brett Woolley and Zaslove all doubled.

Jacob Lemus doubled for the Bay Area boys but that was the only extra-base hit for the Giants. Jack Corriveau was 2-3 at the plate and Austin Ratliff and Jett Handley also had base hits.

Lemus started on the hill for the Giants and pitched three innings. Dylan Thieman took over in the fourth inning and closed out the game. The duo combined for five Ks and walked only one batter.

Standings – Phillies 11-0, Braves 10-2, Pirates 7-5, Rangers 7-5, Rays 5-8, Cardinals 2-10, Giants 0-12.
