The newly renovated McBean Pool House got shown off to more than 100 eager swimmer Monday during a free open swim session. The city of Lincoln dedicated the refurbished space Monday and opened it to the public at 1:30 p.m. Just for the day, open swim, which is from 2-5 p.m. every day, was free. Zachary Green, 11, and Mason Thomas, 10, took a short break from playing in the pool to assess the new facilities. “I haven’t been here in a long time, but it’s probably the funnest time I’ve ever had here,” Green said. “The lifeguards are pretty strict, but they have to be.” “It’s cool because some small towns don’t have pools,” Thomas said. “It’s a lot cleaner and nicer (now).” Prior to the $1.2 million renovation, most of the building was used as storage space. Now, separate men’s and women’s locker rooms each have four stalls, multiple dressing rooms, lockers and showers. Another made-over room features a snack bar, while a new 1,450-square-foot building provides storage and houses offices. McBean Pool is open June through September from 6:30 a.m., when lap swim begins, to 8:30 p.m., when water aerobics end. Open swim is 2-5 p.m. every day through the summer. The cost for open swim is free for ages 0 to 3; $2 ages 4-7; $3 ages 8-12; $4 ages 13-17; and $5 adults. Family swim nights are 5:30-7:30 p.m. Monday and Saturday.
