This Bay Area transplant feels at home at Kim’s

Although I am a Bay Area transplant, my McCoy family roots were planted deep in sweet country soil. My father's huge family was from Oregon. Many were the years us five kids would pile into our parent's old white Rambler station wagon and head north to our annual family reunion. It was a 700-mile trip, without air conditioning in the middle of July, and we looked forward to it like Christmas. When we arrived, we were immersed in that wonderful home-cooked country soup of life for just a few days each year. But it stayed with us long after the last bit was soaked up by our hungry city crusts. When I sit down and sit a spell in Kim's Country Kitchen, amidst all the warm and friendly people, I can almost feel my dad along with his brothers and sisters, now long gone, watching down on me from between all those eyes and ears that hang from the welcoming walls.
