Arrest made in brandishing of firearm

At approximately 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 24th, Lincoln Police Officers responded to the Lincoln Food Mart store at 415 A Street, Suite #A, Lincoln, CA for a report of an armed robbery.  Upon arrival, officers learned no robbery occurred but the store clerk saw a white male adult yelling and pointing a black semi-automatic handgun at another male in front of the store. The suspect did not discharge the firearm and he fled the store in a silver Ford Excursion. The victim left the store before the officers arrived and was not located. A Be On the Lookout (BOLO) was sent to neighboring law enforcement agencies regarding the incident.  

At approximately 8 p.m., a Placer County Sheriff’s Deputy saw the suspect vehicle driving East bound on Ferrari Ranch Road and conducted a felony vehicle stop in the Safeway gas station parking lot with the assistance of Lincoln Police officers. Three occupants of the vehicle were detained, and the driver was subsequently arrested for carrying a loaded firearm in the vehicle. The suspect was identified as Derek Wellington Best, age 36, of Lincoln. Best was booked into the Placer County Jail.
