Annual Independence Day 4th of July Parade – It’s A Grand Old Flag!

-A +A
“It’s a Grand Old Flag” will be the theme of this year’s Fourth of July Independence Day parade. Parade entry applications are now online at the Lincoln Area Chamber of Commerce website at lincolnchamber.com. Deadline for applications is Tuesday, June 28. The Fourth of July fun begins at 9 a.m. in downtown Lincoln. The parade route will start at 5th and A streets and head west on 5th Street between A and F streets, then head north on F and then east on 6th Street, ending at 6th and D streets. The judges’ stage will be in front of the old Civic Auditorium on the corner of 5th and E streets. For sponsorship opportunities, contact the chamber of commerce. Mail registration forms and sponsorship donations to Lincoln Area Chamber of Commerce, 540 F St., Lincoln, CA 95648. For more information, visit the chamber’s website at lincolnchamber.com or call Terri Reeves at 645-2035. The traditional fireworks show will be at approximately 9:30 p.m. Last year’s fireworks almost didn’t happen, as the annual Fourth of July fireworks show at McBean Park was cancelled by the city due to the $1.7 million deficit in the city’s General Fund, according to prior News Messenger reports. Ruth Alves, a Lincoln resident, worked to raise the $15,000 needed to fund the fireworks show through donations. This year is shaping up to be a bigger fundraising challenge than last year, according to Ruth Alves, who wants to raise another $15,000 this year. So far, Alves has raised half of what is needed and “is looking to the good citizens, organizations and companies of Lincoln to help once again.” “If everyone in Lincoln would contribute 25 cents to the fireworks fund, we would more than make the goal of $15,000,” Alves said. Fireworks donations can be sent to the city of Lincoln, Fireworks Fund, Attention: Pat Avila, 600 6th St., Lincoln, CA 95648.
