Second Planning Commission vacancy in a month

Lincoln Planning Commission Chairman Brian Plummer resigned Sept. 20, the second resignation from the advisory panel this month.
The Lincoln City Council will discuss the city’s appointment process at 4 p.m. Tuesday at its special, monthly workshop meeting, according to City Clerk Gwen Scanlon.
Plummer, in a letter addressed to Mayor Peter Gilbert, said he was resigning from his position because “my other commitments have become too great for me to be able to fulfill the requirements of my position on the commission and I feel it is best for me to make room for someone with the time and energy to devote to the job.”
Kristian Watford, the commission’s vice-chairman, resigned Sept. 1. Watford did not provide the city with an explanation for his resignation.
Lincoln City Council was prepared to appoint Holly Andreatta on Sept. 12. Andreatta, first on an eligibility list for the Planning Commission, was present at the Sept. 12 council meeting. The eligibility list was created Jan. 10, according to a report by Scanlon.
However, Andreatta was not appointed Sept. 12 due to confusion over which City Councilman’s appointment it was to make. Since then Scanlon has determined that the Watford vacancy is Councilman Gabriel Hydrick’s appointment and that Plummer’s vacancy is Councilman Stan Nader’s appointment.
An eligibility list for the Planning Commission, created Jan. 10, lists Andreatta, Jordan Maurer and Gary McDonald as the first three qualified candidates for the vacancy. Gilbert recommended the appointment of Andreatta to the commission leading up to the Sept. 12 City Council meeting. A discrepancy as to whether Watford was an at-large appointment or Councilman Hydrick’s appointment was discovered prior to the start of the Sept. 12 meeting.
The Planning Commission is comprised of Dan Cross, appointed by Councilman Dan Karleskint; Michele Hutchinson, appointed by Gilbert; Bill Lyons, an at-large appointment; Brian Plummer, appointed by Councilman Stan Nader; Kelye McKinney, an at-large appointment; and Michael Roberts, appointed by Councilman Paul Joiner, according to a staff report prepared by Scanlon for the Sept. 12 meeting.
