And in other sports news …

With the traditional excitement of football fast approaching, it is sometimes easy to overlook that Lincoln High has a number of other sports coming up this fall.

Tuesday Epperson will help lead the Fighting Zebras into the Foothill Valley League against the same tough foes the football team will face.

A sophomore sensation last year, Epperson has been dogged about preparing for her junior year.

Lincoln will open its season at Turkey Creek Golf Club Aug. 21 against a familiar opponent in Bear River.

Coach Elizabeth Zamora has been working this summer to prepare for life in the FVL and opens the season at home against Bear River Aug. 18.

The Zebras are scheduled for five home matches through Aug. 30.

Lincoln does not participate in a sport where athletes do not move their feet and no better place to get those bipeds going than cross-country.

The Zebras are scheduled to run with the herd at the Oakmont Invitational at Maidu Park in Roseville Aug.25.

Gone are the days of mixed tennis and now the Lincoln girls and boys will play seasons apart.

The team is set to open at home against Antelope Aug. 30 and then it appears to be the FVL the rest of the way.
