Utah's DeBry set to join Warriors golfBy: Robert Marten for The News Messenger/Placer Herald
An outstanding golfer and scholar-athlete, Alex DeBry, native of Salt Lake City, Utah, will join the Warriors golf program this fall.
DeBry is no stranger to going low. He recorded a career-best 3-under par 69 during his career at Cottonwood High School. Additionally, he lettered in golf all four years, was team captain his junior and senior years and was selected to the All-Region team throughout his four years of high school golf.
DeBry’s skill on the golf course stems, in part, from developing an all-around athleticism, as he also lettered in basketball.
“I really liked the feel of the (William Jessup) campus and the ability to have more meaningful relationships with students and professors,” said DeBry. “I am very excited about the direction the golf team is headed … and I’m excited to have a chance to be part of a championship run.”
DeBry will also provide William Jessup University a promising scholar, boasting a near perfect GPA and coursework centered around AP and honor classes.
In between his studies and athletic pursuits, DeBry found time to volunteer his time, assisting handicapped students at the Hartvigsen School and delivering food boxes to homebound people.
“The William Jessup University community is getting a young man of moral, academic, and athletic excellence,” said head golf coach Tim Hovancsek. “We are proud to have DeBry be a part of the school and of the golf team.”
