Closing the season at the NAIA National Tournament with a top-10 finish was not the last national recognition William Jessup University’s men's golf team would receive. The Golf Coaches Association of America recently announced the Warriors were named to the All-American Scholar team and captain Johnnie Greco received All-American Scholar accolades.

"The dedication and hard work that Johnnie Greco and our senior leadership (Dale Thomas, Arick Koeth, Pono Ng) showed this past year in reaching our second All-Academic Team award was outstanding," WJU head coach Tim Hovancsek said.  "They got the job done in both fields that matter, the classroom and the course, that's what makes them true student-athletes."

This is the second consecutive year the team has been recognized for academic excellence, on top of the hard work put in on the course.

To be eligible for GCAA All-Academic Team honors, a college or university must submit the GPAs for each player on its official squad list for the academic year and have a team GPA of 3.5 or greater.

Greco, a senior, was also awarded for his exceptional performance in the classroom, maintaining a 3.753 GPA throughout his collegiate career while shooting a 73.88 scoring average.

Eligibility for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status requires that an individual be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50 percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average less than 78.0, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2.

"These guys will always have a special place in my heart.  I know they all will do WJU proud in their future endeavors," Hovancsek concluded. "With this new crop of student-athletes, they all are coming in with the mindset to continue our quest to a National Championship as well rounded student-athletes."
