Fun soaring with Lincoln resident Richard Pearl
What fun seeing Kaia Snow, 9, so excited to be part of the soaring action!
“Soaring is a communal sport,” according to Richard Pearl, Truckee-Tahoe Soaring Association’s (or Soar Truckee) vice president and director of operations, and a Lincoln resident.
“To launch a glider takes a ground crew of at least two additional helpers, plus the tow plane pilot,” Pearl said.
For the Snows, it’s a family affair. Grandfather Willie is president of the glider operation, daughter-in-law Karen is the office manager, along with teenagers Zach and Gavin, who help both in the office and on the flight line.
“I taught Willie’s son, Jared, to fly when he was a youngster,” Pearl said. “We have lots of families like this in soaring.”
Soar Truckee’s commitment to youth aviation training includes flight training for the line crew, many of whom have gone on to military academies and professional flight schools; summer camps; and flight scholarships.
Soar Truckee offers sight-seeing rides to the public seven days a week from Memorial Day through September.
What fun! I am tempted to experience it!
