The Foothills Vintage Jeep Group honored United States Army World War II veteran Gene Goodin in Monday’s 4th of July Lincoln parade.

Goodin received special recognition from U.S. Congressman Doug LaMalfa and Jim Nielsen, CA State Assemblyman, for honorable service to the United States.

Staff Sergeant US Army Gene Goodin volunteered for 101st Airborne and was assigned to 501st Headquarters Div. under Maj. Butler.

His division jumped on D-Day, June 1944, at St. Mere Eglise and at Nijmegen during Market Garden. They were transported by truck to Bastogne on Dec. 20 (they jumped off the back of trucks there) where they were surrounded for 26 days.

Final jump was into Germany at the Rhine to hold the bridges. Each jump, the 501st lost 50 percent of their men in battle.
