Lincoln teams finish a game short at TOCs

Four Lincoln Little League teams battled it out in the District 11 Tournament of Champions last week, with three coming within one game of reaching the championship round.

The Juniors TOC was played in Auburn, where Sierra Foothills eliminated Lincoln 7-3 Saturday. Rocklin defeated Sierra Foothills 5-3 to claim the District 11 championship on Sunday


The LLL Padres and Indians entered the TOC as the A and B team respectively. The tournament was held on the Sierra Foothills’ diamond in Colfax.

The Padres caught the championship round-bound Tri-City Dodgers on a hot night and fell 14-4 last week to bow out of the tournament.

The Auburn Mets eliminated the Rocklin Cardinals 2-1 and then upended the Dodgers 3-2 in the championship game.

On their way to the semifinals, the Padres defeated Bear River 8-7, Auburn A 4-2 and the Tri-City White Sox 8-3 in their TOC opening contest.

The Pads’ Corden Pettey had two home runs in the tournament, one a grand slam.

The LLL Indians defeated Bear River A 7-6 to advance, but were eliminated by the Rocklin Dodgers 17-7.


The LLL Angels defeated Foresthill 12-2 and Tri-City 12-6, before falling to Grass Valley 10-1 last week.

Rocklin then defeated Grass valley 8-6 in a dramatic championship finish.


Lincoln Little League is hosting the District 11 9-11 All Stars, with games beginning Tuesday in the two-loss elimination tournament.

Auburn defeated Foresthill 15-5 to open the tournament and Sierra Foothills beat Nevada City 10-0 in the later game.

Wednesday, Tri-City claimed an 11-2 victory over Grass valley and Lincoln slipped by Rocklin 3-2 in the nightcap.

Thursday, Foresthill will play Nevada City in an elimination game, starting at 5 p.m. At 7:30, Grass Valley and Rocklin will meet to see which team goes home first.

Friday will feature the winners from Tuesday and Wednesday. The 5 o’clock game will feature Auburn vs. Foresthill and Tri-City and Lincoln will close out the evening’s action.

There will be two games each played on Saturday and Sunday, 5 and 7:30 p.m.

Playing for the Lincoln 11 All Stars are: Jason Cook, Gavin Rappa, Jesse Rusinek, Aiden Maul, Mac Drennon, Brendan Willis, Joel Barfield, Peter Bostic, Tucker James, Evan Barrientos, Johnathan Moran, JT Cross, Gavin Cruice and Lane Tingey. The team coaches are: Mark Willis, Jeremy Cook and Aaron James.
