City officials should support police and fire department chiefsBy: Dave Myers
Jim Datzman's column (Page A5, June 23), "Who runs the Lincoln Police Department?" punctuated an ongoing problem with Lincoln's finances: Our police and fire departments are always understaffed and out of money. No agencies are more important to the safety and security of its citizens than these two.
How about a special assessment and/or sales tax to be used exclusively to augment our police and fire budgets? Also, the chiefs should be given the support from city officials to manage their departments without worrying about end run sabotage plays from disgruntled troops.
