Potters play in Portland this weekend

-A +A

The Potters head out on the road this week, traveling to Portland for a three-game series this weekend.

“The trip couldn't come at a better time for the team and fans, as the temperatures have hit 110 degrees this week,” said Justin Wardlaw, the Lincoln Potters Baseball Club’s sales director. “Returning next Thursday, June 29th against Chico, the Potters will continue the season looking to hold onto first-place in the Great West League.”

Home games are at McBean Stadium at 65 McBean Park Drive. Games start 7:05 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays; 7:35 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays; 6:05 p.m. Sundays and 6:05 p.m. on the 4th of July. The inaugural season runs through Aug. 5 and playoffs begin Aug. 7.

“I am blown away by the talent and solidarity demonstrated by our ball club.  We are beginning to see regular fans come out each night to cheer on their favorite player, participate in the game promotions and even heckle the umpires from time to time,” Wardlaw said. “We have dubbed a few select honorees as ‘Parking-Lot Potters,’ as these few are so devout in their support that they will regularly show up two hours before game time to enjoy their own barbecue and offer encouraging words to our players.”

Some Potters games include a post-fireworks show. Remaining games that feature fireworks are on July 4, July 14 and July 28.

“If you haven’t enjoyed a game at McBean Stadium this summer, I am formally inviting you to come witness the excitement, the pure joy that comes from the crack of a wooden bat,” Wardlaw said. “The team hosts a promotional night during every weekday, including Eat-More-Chicken Mondays by Chick-Fil-A, $2 Beer Tuesday by Loomis Basin Brewing Company, and Weiner Wednesday, when hotdogs are only a buck.”

The Potters also have freebies for some of the home games. Lincoln Potters sunglasses will be handed out July 1. Cowbells, sponsored by Chick-Fil-A will be handed out July 14. Piper the Peacock bobbleheads will be handed out during Fan Appreciation Night on Aug. 2.
