Jessup’s Swift named NAIA All American
The William Jessup University baseball team received another accolade when the 2018 Baseball All-American class named junior outfielder Austen Swift to the All-American second team.
"Being named an All-American is a complete honor and I'm truly privileged to receive it," Swift said. "This team has worked so hard to get to the position they are and for me to be the first William Jessup baseball player ever to be named to this list leaves me speechless."
The Warriors went from 10 wins last season a program-best 41 wins this year and hosted the NAIA Regional Tournament at McBean Park.
"I would like to congratulate Austen on this tremendous accomplishment,” said Warriors’ first-year head coach Jake McKinley. “He approached his work every day with integrity and grit, all while being a great teammate and an accomplished student. He's a rare student-athlete and we feel so fortunate to have him in the program."
Swift is the first WJU player to receive such a high honor. The outfielder was also co-Player of the Year for the Golden State Athletic Conference.
Swift hit 18 home runs this season and was in the NAIA’s top 25 for home runs per game, total bases, runs scored and total runs scored. He finished the season with a .365 batting average, third best on the team.
