The 17th annual Tour de Lincoln charity bike ride (Saturday) was a resounding success, thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and our wonderful volunteer workers.
Special thanks to our Title Sponsor, Rogers Family Coffee, and our Platinum Sponsor, Regis Homes.
Early in the week, volunteers from the Lincoln Hills Cyclists marked out the courses with directional arrows to and helped to sort out the food that Rotarians had purchased for breakfast, rest stops and lunch. A Friday night pre-ride pasta dinner was offered for riders registered for the Tour de Lincoln.
After an included continental breakfast, 450 riders rode out last Saturday morning to enjoy the beautiful rural back roads surrounding Lincoln.
Members of local service clubs (Rotary, Kiwanis, Lions and Soroptimists) staffed four rest stops to keep riders hydrated and well supplied with snacks. Volunteers from the Lighthouse Family Counseling Center staffed a fifth rest stop.
Members of the Western Placer Amateur Radio Club provided SAG support for all riders. Mechanics from local bicycle shops (Folsom Bikes, Victory Velo and Roseville Cyclery) volunteered to assist riders with mechanical problems.
Diana Burke and her volunteer crew from Simple Pleasures provided a delicious barbecue lunch for all riders.
More than 132 community volunteers and 19 business sponsors made this event a success.
On behalf of the Lincoln Rotary Club Foundation who organized this year’s Tour, I want to thank our wonderful sponsors and volunteers and the 450 cyclists who came out to enjoy a beautiful bike ride and who generated more than $30,000 for charity. These funds will support Rotarian service projects such as the new senior center, the books for bikes reading proficiency program, college and tech school scholarships for Lincoln students, and sex-trafficking prevention programs. Thank you and see you again next year when the 18th Tour de Lincoln will be held on
May 11, 2019.
