Two people died in separate traffic accidents last weekend in Lincoln – one downtown and the other on Highway 65.

A solo-vehicle accident Saturday on southbound Highway 65, just south of 12 Bridges Road, resulted in the death of the passenger and the arrest of the driver, according to a spokesman with the California Highway Patrol Auburn office.

The vehicle overturned and went off the road, according to the CHP, trapping both the driver and passenger.

The accident occurred at approximately 6:50 p.m. Saturday and the passenger died at the scene, a CHP spokesman said Monday. Official identification of the passenger by the Placer County Coroner’s office is pending notification of next of kin.

The driver sustained major injuries and was arrested for alleged driving under the influence, according to the CHP.

Earlier Saturday, at approximately 1:49 p.m., a pedestrian was struck and killed by a pickup truck near C Street and McBean Park Drive in downtown Lincoln, according to the Lincoln Police Department.

Lincoln resident Joshua Michael Jones, 38, died Saturday after being hit by a pickup truck driven by Alexander B. Broyer, 76, also of Lincoln, according to a news release by the Lincoln Police Department. According to the release, witnesses said Jones had been seen running out in front of oncoming traffic.

Jones – who had previous contact with the Lincoln Police Department for mental health-related issues – was taken to Sutter Roseville Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 2:47 p.m. Saturday.
