The Western Sierra Collegiate Academy baseball team was unable to capitalize on an earlier win over Leroy Greene Academy, when the Lions rallied to win 11-8 Tuesday.

After falling behind 0-5, the Wolves rallied in the fifth inning for seven runs to go on top 7-5. Coming across the plate were JP Cooper, Riley Maeder, Evan Strasser, Tyler Adams, Peter Ordoino, Jonathen “Johno” Barton and Ted Faith.

Faith had the big hit, a two-run home run deep to left field. Tyler Adams’ base hit brought in three runs and Barton drove in Adams with a double.

But Leroy Greene answered with five runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning and added one more in the sixth.

Barton started on the mound for WSCA and went five innings; Faith and Ordonio came on in relief.

“I know our team can pull together,” said catcher and captain Paxton Ekkelboom, “and if any team can finish strong – we can!”

In spite of the loss, the Wolves remain a half game in back of Valley Christian. There is some confusion as to Sacramento Metropolitan Athletic League-leading Alpha Charter, a team that is listed as 6-0, but has won eight games playing SMAL teams this season.

Western Sierra will open a two-game series with Valley Christian Friday and travel to Alpha Charter May 3.
