Lincoln PACE Race promotes ageless commitment to exercise May 6

-A +A

Sun City Lincoln Hills Community Association hosts the inaugural PACE Race (Promoting Ageless Commitment to Exercise) May 6 and invites community members of all ages to share a day of exercise and outdoor activities.

PACE Race participants for both the 5K and 10K races will run along the winding streets of Lincoln Hills.  Fun Run participants will walk and run the 18th fairway of Lincoln Hills Club’s Orchard Course.  Post-race events and activities will be held at the amphitheater greens.

The PACE Race is being launched as an opportunity to bring all generations together to celebrate ageless exercise, according to Sun City Lincoln Hills’ senior director of lifestyle and communications Jeannine Balcombe.  The 5K and 10K courses will accommodate young-to-mature racers, while the golf course is an ideal track for those who choose the Fun Run option.

“It’s recognized that exercise and activity are proven keys to successful aging and that keys need to start turning as soon as the legs can toddle,” said race director and Lincoln Hills resident Tony Johnson. “This race is one way to celebrate ageless exercise and the healthful fun it provides.  We’re looking forward to our participant guests experiencing our beautiful playground while making new friends through the event.”

An additional draw to the PACE Race is the keepsake participant medallion that is being created by Gladding, McBean terra cotta, pottery, clay tile and pipe manufacturer.  Gladding, McBean has been a historic landmark for Lincoln since 1875.  Other PACE Race sponsors include DSA Technologies, Rex Moore, San Francisco Bay Gourmet Coffee (Rogers Family Company) and Sun Works.

Registration is underway for the anticipated 500 participants and event attendees.  Like the race itself, the all-ages beneficiaries include local schools and the Alzheimer’s Association.

Registration for the 5K is $35 or $40 on race day, with the race beginning at 8:30 a.m. May 6.  Registration for the 10K is $40 or $45 for race-day registration, with the race starting at 8:45 a.m.  The Fun Run is complimentary and begins at 8 a.m.   Participants are welcome to create a racing or walking team.

The event activities are from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Post-race activities on the Amphitheater greens include:

·         Salsa contest and street tacos

·         Food and beverage vendors

·         Beer garden and beer tasting

·         Petting zoo for children

·         Music with a deejay

·         Sponsor booths

Participants will meet at Sun City Lincoln Hills’ Orchard Creek Lodge, which is located at 965 Orchard Creek Lane in Lincoln.
