Jessup basketball signs Folsom star Armstrong
Local Folsom High School soon-to-be graduate Jessica Armstrong has signed with the 2017 recruiting class for the William Jessup University women's basketball team, contributing size, toughness, and depth.
The 5-foot-11-inch senior brings talent from the competitive AAU level with the Sac Sting, as well as her high school program. She was a key contributor to the Bulldog's winning 27-5 season and run all the way to the NorCal semifinals.
"We're thrilled to welcome Jessica Armstrong to our Jessup family. She is a perfect fit for our school and our program," second-year head coach Kurt Westendorp commented. "Jessie fills a big need for our program by adding size, toughness, and depth to our backcourt. She is a versatile player who will have an opportunity to contribute on both ends of the floor."
Continuing her career in basketball, head coach of Armstrong's Sac Sting squad Matt Rominger said he looks forward to seeing her excel at the next level.
"I can easily say Jessie was one of the most skilled players to ever play with the Sac Sting," Coach Rominger said. "There is no doubt she will be an asset to the WJU basketball program and I am excited to see her offensive production continue at the collegiate level."
Armstrong looks forward to her start on the Jessup campus as she chose the school because of its location, great people and her future academic and athletic success. She will look to study kinesiology or psychology, with hopes to one day pursue a career in sports psychology.
"I would like to learn more about becoming an educated and effective sports psychologist and take some of the steps I need to get there," Armstrong said. "I also look forward to meeting more people and making new friends!"
"Jessie's signing is the first step of what we hope will continue to be a strong 2017 recruiting class," Westendorp concluded.
