A woman was robbed of her purse early Friday morning in the parking lot of one of Lincoln’s main shopping areas.

According to Lincoln Police Chief Doug Lee, a woman was robbed at 4 a.m. in the Safeway parking lot at 67 Lincoln Blvd. The woman was walking from her car to the store entrance when a vehicle pulled up beside her. The driver, wearing a white mask, got out of the vehicle and pointed a sliver semi-automatic handgun at the woman, Lee said. The masked robber demanded her purse, according to Lee.

The woman handed over her purse and the suspect fled, according to Lee.

“Detectives will ascertain whether the incident and/or the suspect's vehicle were captured on video in the area,” Lee said. “They are also working with neighboring jurisdictions to determine whether or not this crime is related to any of theirs.

“While it is troubling that a crime like this occurred here, we do not believe there is any reason to fear additional or related events,” Lee added. “As always, we encourage everyone to be vigilant and alert to their surroundings when out in public.”

The suspect was described as a white male adult, tall with a thin build, wearing jeans and possibly a black jacket, according to Lee.

The vehicle was a red 4-door, possibly a Toyota, with paper plates.
