Sierra College to host school jazz bands

SPRING JAZZ INVITATIONAL

When: 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 19

Where: Dietrich Theatre, Sierra College, Rocklin

Tickets: $10 general, $6 students/seniors, available at the door

Four local jazz ensembles will perform this month at the Spring Jazz Invitational Concert hosted by the Sierra College Music Department on Wednesday, April 19 in the Dietrich Theatre.

Featured bands will include te Rocklin High School Jazz Ensemble, directed by Tom Douglass; the Placer High School Jazz Ensemble, directed by David Lawrenson; the Antelope High School Jazz Ensemble, directed by Ritchey Hodge; and the Sierra College Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Greg McLaughlin.

Their performances will include pieces like “Blues in the Closest” by Oscar Peterson, “Unit 7” by Sam Jones, “Blood Count” by Billy Strayhorn, “Cherry Juice” by Thad Jones, and Jim McNeely’s “Extra Credit.”

General admission is $10 at the door, and all proceeds benefit the Sierra College Music Department. There is a $3 parking fee on campus. Parking permits can be purchased at machines located within the campus parking lot.
