With Pioneer Valley League competition still a couple weeks away, the Lincoln High softball team has been dodging storms and taking on all comers when able in preparation for their opener against Placer April 4.

Head coach Donna Tofft has six seniors playing alongside four juniors, three sophomores and three freshmen. The Fighting Zebras are 3-2 on the season and hitting a healthy .387. Those players with 10 or more plate appearances are hitting at a .414 clip.

Senior Dallas Atchley is back behind the plate and hitting .462, with six RBIs and two of the team’s four home runs. The team has committed just three errors and has a .969 fielding percentage.

Junior Hanna Sheiring has followed her sister Lexee Sheiring (now at Humboldt State) into the circle and has two wins in three games pitched. She is being backed up by Emily Deatherage, also a junior, with an ERA of 1.00.

Lincoln was scheduled to host Highway 65 rival Wheatland Friday at 4 p.m.
