Lincoln picks up second win in baseball
No sooner had the Lincoln High baseball team evened their preseason record by defeating Grant 8-3 Monday on the Fighting Zebras’ diamond, Whitney came to town to play and left with a 15-5 decision Wednesday.
Against Grant, it was Lincoln’s second win in four outings and snapped a two-game losing streak.
Leading the way at the plate was Ryan Graham, who pounded out three hits, one a double and he drove in two runs. Graham also scored a run to match the Pacers’ total run output.
Jared Palmyra crossed the plate twice, picking up a double and a run batted in. Palmyra also took to the hill to throw for an inning.
The Zebras blasted seven doubles in all, with Moises Huerta rapping out two. Brennan Rozell, James Sweet and Charles Middleton joined Graham and Palmyra in the two-bagger parade.
Stepping on the platter besides Graham and Palmyra were Rozell, Huerta, Ty Williams, Middleton and Greden McFarlin.
On the mound, Alex Nunez threw for 4 2/3s innings, backed up by Palmyra and David Cosh. Nunez surrendered the runs, but fanned four from Grant in the process.
Lincoln had zero errors in the contest.
The Zebras play at Pleasant Valley Saturday before opening Pioneer Valley League play hosting Foothill at 4 p.m. Thursday.
